Radio-Acoustic Wind Profiler at Frankfurt Airport
(September 8, 2005)

A radio-acoustic profiler system Scintec AP1000 has been installed at Frankfurt Airport and is operated by the Germain Air Traffic Control (DFS). The system supplies continuous wind and temperature profiles up to 1,500 m height.

Using a new RASS technique, the AP Series Profilers achieve a spatial resolution, a temporal resolution and a data availability which by far exceed those of any other radar wind profiler. Also, the systems are immune against clutter from airplanes, birds or precipitation.
