Airports Can Detect Microburst 5 min Earlier

Using AWAIRE® Aviation in connection with the LAP®3000 Radar Wind Profiler, Airports can now detect microburst events up to 5 min earlier than with a Low Level Windshear Alert System (LLWAS), a Scanning Doppler Lidar or a Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR). AWAIRE® Aviation can detect the formation of microbursts at high altitude before they propagate downwards and eventually reach the ground. Near the ground, the horizontal spread of the downdraft creates dangerous wind shear. Only at this point can the event be detected using conventional instrumentation. The early warning issued by AWAIRE® Aviation gives the tower and pilots valuable time to take necessary precautions. AWAIRE® Aviation provides these extra minutes needed for more meaningful responses.
