HungaroControl operates new Scintec XFAS with RASS

HungaroControl’s Meteorological Service acquired and operates a Scintec XFAS Sodar with RASS extension to increase safety and efficiency of air traffic operation at Budapest International Airport. The device is used for a variety of purposes: find the appropriate runway use direction, obtain wind shear information, forecast visibility below temperature inversions with fog, nowcast the type of precipitation type in winterly situations and nowcast and analyse micro- and mesoscale meteorological situations. The system is incorporated in the Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF), Landing and TREND forecast, aerodrome warning and wind shear warning processes.
