MRI/JMA uses new LAP3000 to improve severe weather forecasts

A new LAP®3000 Radar Wind Profiler was purchased and installed by the Meteorological Research Institute (MRI) of the Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA). The system is operated at MRI's headquarter in Tsukuba and is used for improving methods to monitor and forecast severe weather events, including heavy rain and extreme winds. New meteorological measurement technology will also be developed to provide a basis for the design of JMA’s next-generation observation networks.
